    Electrical Q's

I'm making this thread for general electrical questions, primarily for myself but others may feel free to use this as a venue to ask folks here as well. I want to re-wire my vehicle but I'm pretty much electrically retarded. I understand the concepts of electrical circuits, but my first question to those who are more savy than I, is how do you know what gauge wire to use? I imagine there's some formula that I am not privy to that indicates what gauge wire will support X amount of amperage. For instance, obviously the starter wire must be loads thicker than the wire that carries current to your blinker. But if I have an itty-bitty starter versus a monster starter could I get away with 4g wire versus 1g wire, and how would I know? Additionally, I'll have to assume that any other fixtures along the path of said wire would also have to be accounted for in choosing the wire size. So... Bueller? Any help? Thanks in advance.

    Nick

use this to get a general area of amperage to gauge of wire..

If your really going to rewire...... Start with a chassis harness here. http://www.painlessperformance.com/
    98' GC (carcass)
    03' WRX wagon (busted up)
    06' STI (unicorn in hiding)

Yeah I've heard a lot of people using painless kits and that they make the job a whole lot easier. I didn't look into them because I assumed they were pre-made for specific makes/models but whaddyaknow, they're universal. Thanks... But hey, wouldn't it be awesome though if I rewired the brat from scratch with spools of wire before you got the GC re-wired?

I might find that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow before that GC gets wired... =-P

mike is definitely winning. the harness and dash that are in my wagon came from his rs.
ive already swapped my car twice since we pulled the harness and that was year before I stared my first swap in 2009.
