The cayman is an even worse 1/4 mile performer than the not so great STi. Neither were designed for it at all. I had someone try to race me in my 08. His windows down and A/C off and my A/C on full blast. Didn't realize it was a race until he took off. I sat right next to him the entire time... For half the price. Throw in a turn and it's a different story.

I don't believe that 15 STI would be much behind (if at all) the cayman even if you threw in a few turns. 15 chassis is damn good and fast.

The price points highlighted were very slanted. A Cayman's base MSRP is $52K, so that car had $18K worth of options. S starts at ~$63K. Yes there was a $16K price difference between a base Cayman and a base STI, but inflating the price difference to $24K is crap journalism.
